The Race for a Cure is on at the 2011 Honda Indy Toronto

June 27, 2011 (Toronto) – On July 7, 2011, participants of the Run, Walk N’Wheelathon will have the chance to share the track with IndyCar fans while helping to raise funds for spinal cure research in support of the Canadian Spinal Research Organization’s Shoot For A Cure Moto-Sport Campaign and the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation.

Participants will experience the thrill of a lifetime and the opportunity to run, walk or wheel their way to the finish line on the Honda Indy Toronto. Racers will have the chance to participate in the corporate challenge, or to make it a family affair and join the general race around the race course.

Mike Dorman, the Executive Director of the Canadian Spinal Research Organization (CSRO) is thrilled to be part of this exciting event again this year.  “The event is a highlight on the CSRO’s event calendar.  No where else can you get this close to an actual event site of this magnitude.  Motor Sports is a key component to the Shoot For A Cure Campaign and a true once in a lifetime experience for all involved.  The SSPF, CSRO and the motoring world have a long history in terms of spinal cord injury occurrences.  It is nice to see all three working together once again to benefit the cause and to find a cure for paralysis,” commented Dorman.

With a $25 registration fee, participants will receive a race kit including a free t-shirt, free hamburger, refreshments and with the pledge program they will have the opportunity to win unique prizes.  Participants are encouraged to utilize the online pledging option to gain support from family and friends.  With a pledge commitment of $150 each participant will have their $25 fee waived.

President of the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, Ida Cahill comments, “It’s wonderful to be able to collaborate once again with our good friends at Shoot For A Cure Moto-Sport in raising funds for research to help the millions of people with paralysis both in Canada and the United States.  We receive so many positive comments from the participants telling us they have such a great time at this event.

Vice President of the Honda Indy Toronto Charlie Johnstone, is a proud supporter of the event.  “We recognize the importance of safe driving both on and off the track. Together, we can make a large impact on the lives of those with spinal cord injuries,” comments Johnstone.
