Scott Dixon Wins Honda Indy Toronto, Canadian Wickens Reaches the Podium in Third

TORONTO – Scott Dixon re-established himself as the driver to beat for the Verizon IndyCar Series championship and furthered his Indy car legacy by winning the Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday.

The four-time series champion led 49 of 85 laps on the 1.786-mile temporary street course at Exhibition Place, including the final 27 laps, to secure his third win of the season and extend his championship lead to 62 points unofficially after 12 of 17 races.

Dixon, in the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda, finished 5.2701 seconds ahead of Simon Pagenaud in the No. 22 DXC Technology Team Penske Chevrolet. It gave Dixon the 44th victory of his Indy car career, ranking him third all time and eight behind Mario Andretti for second place.

Canadian teammates Robert Wickens and James Hinchcliffe thrilled the hometown fans, as the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports drivers finished third and fourth, respectively. Charlie Kimball placed a season-best fifth and led the first lap for Carlin in its debut season in the Verizon IndyCar Series. Tony Kanaan finished a season-best sixth for AJ Foyt Racing.

Pole sitter Josef Newgarden led 25 laps but brushed the wall exiting Turn 11 on a Lap 33 restart and lost valuable time in the pits as the No. 1 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet crew checked the right side of his car for suspension damage. Newgarden finished ninth and remains second in the unofficial point standings behind Dixon.
