Toronto, July 15, 2025 – A group of 20 young Canadian women will get a rare behind-the-scenes experience this Saturday during the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto, taking place July 18–20 at Exhibition Place. The students will tour the NTT INDYCAR and support paddocks, meeting engineers, team members, and drivers while learning firsthand about career paths in motorsport.
This inspiring opportunity, made possible by the event’s organizers, is part of a broader initiative to encourage more young women to pursue careers in motorsports, engineering, and other STEM-related fields.
“We’re proud to help open doors and support the next generation of motorsport talent,” said Jeff Atkinson, President of the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto. “Motorsport thrives on innovation, teamwork, and diverse perspectives. By creating space for young women to engage directly with engineers and teams, we’re helping them see that they have a place here as future leaders, builders, and changemakers in the sport.”
Among the participants are 15 engineering students from the University of Toronto, all motivated by a shared goal: to one day build a future in motorsports.
They’ll be joined by five Quebec high school students from ASAP Racing, one of the few all-female teams in the F1 in Schools program and the first Quebec team to win the Canadian STEM racing championship. Runners-up at the North American finals, the team designs, tests, and races miniature F1-style cars using professional engineering software and wind tunnel testing. In October, they will represent Canada at the Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals in Singapore, held during the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend.
“Access like this can be life-changing,” said Anne Roy, Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame inductee and longtime advocate for women in racing. “When young women step into these spaces, they start to see themselves as part of the future of motorsport. We’re not just opening a door; we’re helping them walk through it. I’m deeply grateful to the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto for making this possible.”
