For the first time in over a decade, the Verizon IndyCar Series will feature an all-Canadian team lineup. Schmidt Peterson Motorsports will feature long-time friends Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe and Guelph’s Robert Wickens in their two-car operation for 2018. On Thursday at Goodwood Kartways, the two friends came together to seal the deal on IndyCar’s new Team Canada.

PALMETTO, Fla. (October 17, 2017) – The Mazda Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires today unveiled its 2018 calendar of events. The most effective driver development program in the world with over $3.5M in scholarships and awards on offer will continue its momentum at premier road course, street circuit and oval venues in support of the Verizon IndyCar Series.

Drivers came into the final round of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series with no promises. In the 17th weekend of competition, any of six drivers could leave the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma with the series title. Despite a masterful win by Pagenaud, Josef Newgarden coasted home second to claim the title in his first season with Team Penske and cement himself as the shining star of IndyCar.
