The Swankiest Toronto Indy Paint Jobs

Have you seen the awesome new Honda Indy Toronto show car? The one designed by William- the winner of the GO Transit Design an IndyCar contest. In celebration of William’s great work, we wanted to look back at some of the snappiest paint jobs to grace the the Streets of Toronto.

Will Power: 2009

Fans of IndyCar racing in the 80s will recognize Will Power’s 2009 scheme. Though not necessarily intentional, his bright yellow Penske Truck Rental Dallara is reminiscent of a similar paint job that Al Unser had back at the 1988 Indy 500.

Scott Dixon: 2015

While Chip Ganassi racing is synonymous with long-time sponsor Target, they also have a history of running one-time sponsors at specific races. To promote the release of Jurassic World, Scott Dixon traded in his typical red & white Dallara for a black and silver one in 2015. Visually, the paint job was a roaring success, but sadly, the t-rex wasn’t quick enough to make the podium. That’s OK, because the film went on to gross over $1.5 billion worldwide!

Christian Fittipaldi: 1995

How’s this for a dose of patriotism? Most drivers reserve space near the role hoop or on their racing suit for their nations flag. Christian Fittiapaldi went one better by draping his entire Reynard 95i in the Brazilian flag. I’m sure his Brazilian sponsors had a hand in the design.

All American Racers: 1996 - 1999

If the American flag were an IndyCar, it would probably look much like the Eagle chassis from Dan Gurney’s All American Racers. Like Roger Penske, racing legend Dan Gurney also designed and built his own cars, and from 1996 – 1999 every All American Racers car had a patriotic eagle painted on the front nose.

Sebastien Bourdais: 2014

Similar to All American Racers, KVSH racing has turned the front end of their Dallara DW12 into a beast. We’re not exactly sure what kind of animal is smirking back at us, but it did help carry Sebastien Bourdais to victory lane in race 1 of the 2014 double-header weekend.
